Avoid this medication if:

• You are allergic to this medicine or its contents.

Consult your doctor if:

• You are pregnant, planning to have a child, or breastfeeding.
• You have a medical history of liver disease, breathing disorders (asthma, bronchitis etc.), blood circulation diseases, Myasthenia gravis, thyroid disorders, or an irregular heart rhythm.
• Your symptoms are getting worse. 

Be careful about:

• Taking the medicine timely, in the way that your physician has prescribed.
• Maintaining blood sugar if you are diabetic, while taking this drug.
• Check blood sugar levels if you are diabetic, and on medication to treat diabetes. Taking this  drug may make the signs of low blood sugar less prominent.
• Alcohol consumption should be avoided
• Performing any tasks that require alertness, such as driving, because this drug may cause dizziness. Only perform these tasks if you are confident.

Hypertension

Indications

This medication is indicated in patients with essential hypertension (Increased blood pressure without any secondary identifiable cause), angina (chest pain due to insufficient blood flow to heart muscle), and Hypertension due to pregnancy or post-myocardial infarction (Heart attack). It may also be used in adjunct to anti diuretics and ACE inhibitors in symptomatic chronic heart failure.

Side Effects

Patient taking this medication may experience postural hypotension (drop in blood pressure due to change in body position), bradycardia (decreased heart rate), dizziness (lightheadedness), headache, fatigue, GI upset, dry eyes, angina (chest pain due to insufficient blood flow to heart muscle), A-V block, skin reaction, visual disturbances, weight gain, dyspnea (shortness of breath), and hypercholesterolemia ( increased cholesterol levels).

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in 2^nd or 3^rd degree A-V block (heart block when there are impaired electrical signals from atria to ventricle), uncontrolled heart failure, breathing conditions (asthma, COPD, and bronchospasm), cardiogenic shock, hepatic (liver) impairment, cardiogenic shock (inability of heart to pump efficiently), severe hypotension (low blood pressure), metabolic acidosis (electrolyte disorder with acid-base imbalance), pheochromocytoma (tumor of adrenal gland tissue), and marked fluid retention.

This medicine will not change bleeding tendency, or cause bleeding.

Headaches and dizziness are common and possible side effects of this medicine. To prevent dizziness, try to avoid getting up abruptly when you are lying down, or any other sudden movements.

Does this medicine affect the heart in any way?

This drug helps to slow down the rate at which the heart pumps blood. This reduces blood pressure, and reduces the load on the heart. This is why it can be used for heart failure patients, and patients with high blood pressure.

Will this medicine cause changes in weight?

Weight gain may be a possible side effect, please consult your physician if you experience this side effect.

Is it safe to take painkillers while taking this medicine?

It is possible for this drug to interact with some painkillers such as ibuprofen. It is best to consult your physician before taking this these drugs.
