INDICATIONS

This medication is used in the treatment of psoriasis ,(skin disorder that causes bumpy red patches ) irritable eczemas(red and itchy skin) and other inflammatory dermatoses(skin disorders).

PRECAUTIONS

Patients with a hypersensitivity(allergy ) to this medication or other related medications should be cautioned against the use of this drug.  The patient should also inform their doctor of their complete medical history for more appropriate advice and further details.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

This medication is contraindicated in patients with diabetes and decreased function of the adrenal gland. It is also contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity (allergy ) to this medication.

SIDE EFFECTS

This medication can cause burning , stinging , itching , dryness or redness at the site of application. When first applied to the skin.  It can also cause stretch marks , may worsen skin infections , acne , extreme unwanted hair growth and other effects. Consult your doctor if you observe any of these effects.

PREGNANCY

This medication may carry some risk in pregnant females and requires a risk/ benefit assessment. Consult your doctor for  further information.

LACTATION

The effect of this medication on lactating females is unknown. Consult your doctor for further details.

You are advised to apply only a thin film of the cream on the affected region.

No, it is not. Doing so aggravates the side effects of the ointment.

How long are we supposed to use the ointment?

You are advised to use the ointment for not more than 4 weeks. But if a complete recovery is not observed, consult with your doctor for an alternate ointment.

No, doing so would provoke the skin condition to reoccur and the entire treatment course to be repeated again.

Neomycin is used to prevent or treat skin infections caused by bacteria.

What special precautions should I follow?

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to neomycin or any other drugs. Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, including vitamins. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney disease. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while using neomycin, call your doctor

What happens if I miss a dose?

Since bacitracin topical is when needed, you are not likely to miss a dose.

Store at 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F)

What type of bacteria does Neomycin kill?

Neomycin is very effective against staphylococci and gram-negative bacilli.

How fast does Neomycin work?

Your symptoms should begin to improve within the first few days of treatment.

Is Neomycin good for pimples?

It does not kill the most common acne causing bacteria, therefore, it will not be effective in fighting against pimples or cystic acne.

Does this medicine kill bacteria?

Yes, this cream is an anti-biotic which can be used locally to avoid unwanted bacteria.

Will this medicine interfere with the use of condoms?

Using this medicine might make a condom less effective. Kindly discuss other forms of contraceptives with your doctor when you are using this medicine.

Can I stop taking this medicine if I feel better?

This medicine should be taken for the amount of days prescribed. Otherwise, the infection might recur. Kindly do not stop taking this medicine even if your symptoms have improved.

Can this medicine be used to treat STDs?

No, this medicine cannot be used to treat STD’s. Kindly consult your doctor for the correct diagnosis and treatment of any STD.

Can I use this medicine when I am on my period?

This medicine should be continued when you are menstruating (on your period). Kindly consult your doctor for more information.
