Introduction

Rabeprazole is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems (such as acid reflux, and ulcers). It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. It relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. Rabeprazole helps heal acid damage to the stomach and esophagus; helps prevent ulcers, and may help prevent cancer of the esophagus.

How To Use

  • Take rabeprazole by mouth with food as directed by the doctor.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water.
  • Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.
  • Take rabeprazole regularly to get the most benefit from it.
  • To help remember, take rabeprazole at the same time.
  • Quantity is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Do not increase your quantity or take this product more often than directed.

Primary Uses

Stomach Ulcers

Indications

This medicine is used to treat patients with active duodenal or active benign gastric ulcers (ulcers of the stomach and intestine), erosive or ulcerative Gastro esophageal Reflux Disease (heartburn). It is also used in the maintenance of heartburn, and severe esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus) and with antibiotics to kill H. Pylori bacteria (a special type of bacteria that usually attacks the stomach) in peptic ulcer disease.

Side Effects

The patients administered with this medicine may experience headache, GI upset, rash, dry mouth, asthenia (lack of bodily strength).

Lactation

This medication is contraindicated or not recommended in lactating females. 

Driving

Its use has shown a risk of drowsiness; therefore avoid using it while driving.

Liver

Consult your doctor before using rabeprazole for a better analysis if you have liver disease.

Kidney

Consult your doctor before using rabeprazole for a better analysis if you have kidney disease.

Alcohol

The use of alcohol should be limited or avoided while using rabeprazole.

 

Precautions

The patients with gastric (stomach) or esophageal (a long muscular tube that passes through the body into the stomach) should be excluded before treatment. Severe hepatic (liver) impairment. Patients on long-term therapy should be monitored should use this medicine cautiously.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in people with allergies to this medication. It should also not be used in patients with inadequate vitamin B-12, any autoimmune disease (any disorder in which the body attacks itself), liver problems, osteoporosis (porous bones), weak bones, a low amount of magnesium in the blood among a host of other problems.
