Duodenal ulcers
This medicine is indicated in acute & chronic forms of gastric & duodenal ulcers, gastritis duodenitis (inflammation of stomach lining, inflammation of duodenum), gastric erosion & bile reflux (bile backs up(reflux) into stomach & esophagus).
Its side effects include constipation, diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, dry mouth & rash.
There is no evidence of its risk in pregnant females but should be used with doctor’s recommendation.
In lactating females, caution is advised. Consult your doctor before use.
Please avoid driving when taking this medicine as it may affect your ability to drive.
Please avoid consuming alcohol when taking this medicine.
Caution is advised in patients with kidney impairments
Its contraindications include dialysis, high blood sugar, aluminum poisoning & chronic kidney disease stage 5 (failure). Also contraindicated in allergy with sucralfate.
This medication is used for treating and preventing ulcers (inflammation of the intestinal lining) of the intestines. It speeds up healing of the inflamed area and prevents further damage.
It is advised to use it as prescribed by your health care provider. It may take 4 to 8 weeks for the ulcer to heal completely. The dosage of this medicine is dependent on the age, condition, and its severity. Please consult your health care provider before use of this medicine.
Please store this medicine at room temperature (20-25 Celsius). Keep medicine away from excessive light, moisture, and children. Please do not flush medicines down the toilet. Please read the leaflet provided with the medicine for further storage guidance.
There are no significant foods that should be avoided during use of this medicine. However, it is better to avoid spicy food while you have the ulcer. For further guidance, consult your healthcare provider.
There are no significant swallowing/ intestinal issues associated with use of this medicine. Rarely individuals experience intestinal pain because of this medicine however you may have pain due to the intestinal ulcer (till it lasts).
It mostly takes two to eight weeks before you get full benefit of sucralfate. It shouldn’t be taken for longer than 8 weeks at a time.
Take omeprazole at least 30 minutes before taking sucralfate and use medicine regularly to get most benefit from it.
